High Court reserves judgment in Sinead Warren’s case over apartment search

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The High Court has reserved judgment in Sinead Warren’s case alleging that gardaí used a search of her Dublin 8 apartment as a pretext to interfere in her relationship. The decision followed a hearing reported on 8 May 2026.

Warren says the September 2016 search was a “ruse” connected to her relationship with detective garda Joseph Kavanagh. Gardaí say the warrant was obtained on a reasonable, fair and honest basis during an investigation into a laptop burglary; the court heard the theft did not involve Warren or Kavanagh, who were at the apartment when officers arrived looking for yellow shorts believed to be connected with the burglary.

Warren is seeking damages from the Garda Commissioner, the Minister for Justice, Ireland and the Attorney General. Her claims include interference with her constitutional rights, negligence, breach of duty, misfeasance and deceit. The court has not yet given its judgment.
