The High Court overturned Karl Morrison's €50,000 defamation award following an appeal by Maxela Ltd. The proceedings were reported on 1 May 2015. Dublin Circuit Court had made the award after finding he had been defamed over his claim that a Tallaght shop displayed his photograph with words identifying him as a shoplifter.

Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns ruled that Mr Morrison had not proved defamation and dismissed the case without an order for costs. Maxela Ltd, which operated the shop, denied displaying the poster; the judge said the evidence did not establish what had happened.
