Hazel Waters was jailed for seven years, with two suspended, for manslaughter at the Central Criminal Court on 1 June 2017. Waters, of Ballybrack, Co Dublin, admitted killing her two-year-old son Muhammad Hassan Khan between 15 and 16 October 2014. The sentence was backdated to 16 October 2014, when she first went into custody.
Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy said Waters’s personality disorder diminished her responsibility for the killing. The court also ordered that, for four years after her release, she continue receiving medical treatment considered necessary by probation services.
