Graham Potts was jailed for four and a half years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for demanding money with menace, threatening to damage property and harassment. He had pleaded guilty. The proceedings were reported on 4 March 2025.

Garda Stephen Noonan told the court that men began calling to the South Dublin home of a woman and her husband in April 2022, seeking their adult son. A man said the son owed €3,000; the son later told his mother he knew nothing about it. The group returned and said the amount had risen to €6,000.

Potts later called to the house and demanded €6,000, saying the debt was for cocaine. He called four or five times. In May, he went to where the son worked and told the woman the debt was now €7,000. On 30 May, somebody banged on her door and shouted through the letterbox that her son owed €7,000.

In a victim impact report, the woman said her family had sold their house and left the area. Under defence cross-examination, Garda Noonan accepted that no money was extracted, that Potts had not tried to conceal his identity and that he was neither involved in organised crime nor a gang member.

The court heard that Potts had a separate drug debt and that both his legs and an arm had been broken. He was hospitalised for around three weeks. Judge Martin Nolan declined to backdate the sentence to when Potts entered custody.
