Graham Dwyer murder trial hears of MSTR and SLV phone contacts

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Graham Dwyer’s murder trial continued at the Central Criminal Court with evidence that two recovered phones stored each other’s numbers under MSTR and SLV. The proceedings were reported on 3 March 2015.

The charge alleges that Dwyer murdered Elaine O’Hara on 22 August 2012 at Killakee, Rathfarnham, Dublin. He has pleaded not guilty.

Sarah Skedd, a crime and policing analyst, testified about the Nokia handsets recovered from Vartry Reservoir in 2013. Earlier evidence placed their joint purchase at Grafton Street’s O2 shop on 30 November 2011. Both were unregistered prepay phones.

According to Skedd, each SIM stored a single contact: the other handset’s number. One entry was MSTR and the other SLV. She accepted that the letters represented the consonants in master and slave.

Skedd counted 1,369 text messages and 11 calls between the handsets over the period beginning 1 December 2011 and ending 22 August 2012. Communication ceased at that point. The calls either reached voicemail or received no answer.

She also identified five unanswered calls to the SLV handset from Elaine O’Hara’s iPhone. Skedd accepted that this pattern could reflect someone using one of their phones to locate the other.

The jury trial before Mr Justice Tony Hunt was due to resume on Thursday.
