Graham Doyle was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court to five years in prison, with the final three-and-a-half years suspended, leaving 18 months to serve. The proceedings were reported on 29 March 2019.

He pleaded guilty to four sample counts of sexual assault and one count of oral rape in Dublin between 1 August 2004 and 31 March 2005. Doyle was a teenager when he sexually assaulted the then 13-year-old girl during a relationship he told her to keep secret.

Mr Justice Michael White suspended part of the sentence on condition that Doyle be of good behaviour and engage with probation services throughout the suspended period.

The judge cited the seriousness of the offences, their impact on the victim and her age. He also took account of Doyle’s early guilty plea, remorse, age at the time and lack of previous convictions at the time of the offences.

Doyle had four subsequent convictions, dating from 2011, for defilement of a child under 15. Mr Justice White said those convictions reinforced that Doyle had improper or deviant sexual tendencies.
