This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Glen Synott pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of firearm ammunition under suspicious circumstances at his home in Cabra, Dublin, on 2 February 2016. The proceedings were reported on 8 November 2017.

Judge Terrence O’Sullivan imposed a five-year custodial sentence and suspended it for five years. The conditions required Synott to remain drug-free, engage with addiction services, submit to random urine analysis and keep all probation appointments.

Four bullets were found in a sock beneath decking in the back garden during a search of the house. Synott admitted hiding the sock. In a Garda interview, he said the bullets were not his, although he knew what they were, and that he had been asked to hold them because of a €200 drug debt.

Judge O’Sullivan accepted that it would have been difficult for the DPP to secure a conviction had Synott not confessed to handling the sock, as no DNA was found on the bullets. He described the offence as being at the minor end of the scale. The offence carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years’ imprisonment.
