Gerardo Martinez Rodriguez was jailed for cannabis smuggling at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, in a report published on 6 October 2015. He received an 18-month sentence for possessing and importing 1,029.9g of cannabis resin worth €6,179 at Dublin Airport Terminal 2.

The Spanish national had pleaded guilty and had no previous convictions. Garda evidence said he had swallowed 107 pellets before travelling to Ireland, and was taken to Beaumont Hospital after his arrest because the drugs could have ruptured internally.

The sentence was backdated to April, when Rodriguez entered custody. The report said he intended to make €1,000 from selling the drugs and give the money to his mother.
