Gerard Tier granted bail after criminal damage threat charge

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Gerard Tier was charged with threatening to cause criminal damage. Judge Cephas Power granted him bail at Dublin District Court on 21 August 2021.

The court heard an allegation that a petrol bomb was found under the kitchen sink at Tier’s house and that he had threatened to burn down his former partner’s home in Ballymun. Tier denied the allegation in a statement to gardaí.

His solicitor, Damien Coffey, said Tier’s account was that he was at the home with consent and that they had been drinking. Garda Dylan Maloney accepted that Tier had been there as a guest until the threat.

Garda Maloney objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the case. Coffey said Tier would abide by bail conditions and gave an undertaking through his solicitor to stay away from his former partner. The judge granted bail subject to conditions, granted legal aid and ordered Tier to appear again in October.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
