Gerard Hughes received consecutive sentences at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court: one year in prison for criminal damage and 18 months in custody for possessing cannabis for sale or supply. The proceedings were reported on 14 July 2022.
Hughes pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Citywest Hotel, Saggart, on September 5, 2018. The cannabis charge concerned his home on March 1, 2021, and the sentence was backdated to May 21, 2022.
The hotel damage involved 21 doors and repairs costing €7,717. Cannabis valued at €3,846 was found during a March 2021 search; the defence said Hughes was distressed, remorseful, addicted, in drug debt and dealing at a very low level among friends.
Judge Martin Nolan imposed the sentences. Hughes was due to be arraigned on a separate robbery and endangerment matter on October 6, 2022.
