Gerard Harrington loses Supreme Court appeal bid over false cattle report

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Gerard Harrington’s application to appeal his conviction for making a false report about missing cattle was rejected by the Supreme Court, reported on 14 January 2025.

Harrington was convicted at Tullamore Circuit Criminal Court in July 2021 and fined €6,500 in October 2021. The report concerned cattle he said were missing from his Co Roscommon farm; six were found in his neighbour’s shed with matching tags.

The court found that Harrington had made no admissions in his Garda interview and that its contents were consistent with the account he gave at trial. It dismissed his application because he had not met the constitutional threshold for a further appeal.
