Geraldine McGrath was remanded on continuing bail until March 23, 2026, when Dublin Circuit Criminal Court is due to receive an update on repayments to her friend. Judge Jonathan Dunphy directed that €3,000 be handed over on December 16, 2025, a further €1,000 be paid by that Friday, and at least €11,000 be repaid by the following July. The court said a custodial sentence remained possible.
McGrath pleaded guilty to three counts of deception, which the court heard represented offending from May 2016 to August 2021. The court heard she misled her friend into handing over about €30,000 over five years for what the friend believed was an investment in a Lanzarote bar. The friend, now in her early 80s, used wages, savings and pension money for the payments and was left with no real savings and limited means.
