George Turner, 56, was sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to murdering Emma McCrory. Ms Justice Eileen Creedon imposed the mandatory sentence at the Central Criminal Court on Friday.

The court heard that Turner set fire to Ms McCrory’s bedclothes while she slept at her Clontarf home on December 15, 2022. She died after inhaling products of combustion, including carbon monoxide. Her mother told the court that her daughter’s death left two children without their mother.
