Gary Campion began appeal against murder convictions

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Gary Campion began appeals against two murder convictions at the Court of Criminal Appeal, Dublin, on 11 March 2015.

The convictions concerned the murders of Brian Fitzgerald outside his home in Limerick and Frank Ryan, who was shot while driving.

Campion’s counsel argued that the Fitzgerald trial was unfair because the defence could not have a key prosecution witness psychologically or psychiatrically examined. The appeal continued before President of the Court of Appeal Mr Justice Seán Ryan, Mr Justice Garrett Sheehan and Mr Justice George Birmingham.
