Further remand in custody for man accused of sexual assault in Louth public park

A 50-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a public park has been further remanded in custody.
The defendant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared via video link at Dundalk Circuit Court on Monday when he had the assistance of a Malayan interpreter.
He is charged with two counts of sexual assault at Muirhevnamór Park, Dundalk, on August 1, 2025.
A barrister said that due to “interpreter difficulties” the man’s legal team has had difficulty conducting a full consultation with him.
An adjournment was sought for the accused to be produced at Drogheda Courthouse on May 1 to allow him an opportunity to discuss the case with counsel.
Judge Dara Hayes put the case back as requested for mention and said that he would be asking Judge McMullan to fix a trial date in the next circuit court sessions.
