Frederick Thompson was jailed for 20 months for violent disorder at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 2 February 2015. The sentence was backdated to 23 May 2014. The incident happened at Morrissey’s Pub on Cork Street, Dublin, during a funeral on 7 January 2013.
The court heard CCTV showed Thompson involved in the confrontation and throwing a glass beer bottle at the victim. Judge Martin Nolan said Thompson had probably started the row and described it as a serious fracas involving many people.
Thompson had pleaded guilty, and the court was told his plea assisted the prosecution. A third unnamed man was acquitted of violent disorder, while Anthony Harte also pleaded guilty to the offence.
