Freddie Thompson asked for not guilty verdict in murder trial

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Freddie Thompson’s lawyers asked the Special Criminal Court for a not guilty verdict in his murder trial on 31 May 2018. The prosecution alleges he was involved in the killing of David Douglas on Bridgefoot Street in Dublin on 1 July 2016.

The defence argued that CCTV identification evidence was weak and that there was no forensic connection between Mr Thompson and two vehicles allegedly involved. Prosecutors opposed the application and said the evidence should be assessed cumulatively; the court was due to rule on the application the following day.
