By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Fred Forsey Jnr was granted legal aid for a Supreme Court appeal over receiving corrupt payments at the Court of Appeal, reported on 3 November 2017. The payments concerned a property developer’s interest in planning permission for land at Ballygagin, Co Waterford.

Forsey had been convicted at Waterford Circuit Criminal Court and sentenced to six years, with the final two years suspended, on 27 June 2012. The Court of Appeal dismissed his conviction appeal in July 2016; his lawyers argued that the trial judge misdirected the jury on the presumption of corruption.
