Frank Murphy was remanded in custody at the Special Criminal Court on 11 March 2019 after pleading guilty to impeding the apprehension or prosecution of David Cullen. The court heard that Murphy and Michael McDermott were due to be sentenced for their roles in the case involving the murder of Peter Butterly. The judges adjourned sentencing until 1 April 2019.

Murphy pleaded guilty in November 2018 to committing an act intended to impede proceedings against Cullen, who was known or believed to have possessed a firearm in suspicious circumstances. The court also heard evidence about the investigation and was told Murphy had no previous convictions.
