This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Frank Kelly was jailed for two years and three months for assault causing harm after pleading guilty to attacking Darren Sherlock in Cabra on January 29, 2022. The court heard that a fight between the friends escalated when Kelly struck Sherlock with a bottle and stabbed him nine times.

Sherlock was treated in hospital for nine superficial stab wounds to his back and made a full recovery. Judge Martin Nolan said prison was required after Kelly picked up a knife. He cited Kelly’s guilty plea, co-operation and work history as mitigation, setting a headline sentence of four and a half years before imposing the final term.
