Four bankers have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to mislead investors at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 7 March 2016. The alleged transactions involved Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Life & Permanent during the 2008 financial crisis. Witness Matt Moran told the trial that Anglo examined a potential merger with ILP and Permanent TSB under a project called Universe. He said the merger would have created the State’s third-largest banking force, but it never happened. The trial continued before Judge Martin Nolan and a jury.
