Fórsa strike blocked by High Court injunction

Fórsa’s planned pilots’ strike was blocked by a High Court injunction, reported on 21 August 2019. The dispute concerned pay and conditions involving around 180 Ireland-based Ryanair pilots represented by IALPA, a Fórsa branch.
Ryanair sought the injunction against Fórsa and 11 named individuals, arguing that the proposed industrial action breached an earlier agreement and followed an unlawful ballot. The union denied those claims.
Mr Justice Denis McDonald said there was a fair question to be tried and granted the injunction, subject to Ryanair undertaking to bring the case to an early full hearing.
The planned action was due to take place on 22 and 23 August, but Fórsa told its members it would not proceed. The union said it would study the ruling and consult its legal team.
This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
