Former solicitor Herbert Kilcline was jailed for two and a half years over a scheme involving false deeds used to change the registered ownership of two Dublin properties. Judge Sinead Ní Chúlacháin said Kilcline was a “key component” in the scheme and that his actions put the integrity of the land registry system at risk.

Kilcline, 64, was convicted after trial of eight offences, including using false instruments and fraudulently procuring entries in the Property Registration Authority’s registry. The offending related to properties on Phibsborough Road and St Mary’s Road and took place between 2016 and 2018.

The judge said Kilcline’s conduct went beyond professional negligence, while noting it may not have been a deliberate or calculated fraud. In imposing the sentence, she took account of his medical and mental health issues and the additional challenges custody would pose.
