Florea Hoza, 57, was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to assault causing harm to a woman with whom he was having an affair. The assault took place on Harold’s Cross Road on February 23, 2024. The court heard that he had attacked her earlier at their workplace, then waited for her on her walk home and assaulted her again. She suffered facial injuries, blurred vision and nasal pain.

Judge Martina Baxter set a four-year headline sentence, reduced it to three years to account for Hoza’s guilty plea, and suspended the final year on conditions. Hoza had no previous convictions. A €5,000 payment offered in court was to go to Women’s Aid after the woman declined it.
