Fianait Bligh refused order requiring Irish team selection

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Fianait Bligh was refused a mandatory High Court order requiring her selection for international skating events, in a report published on 25 July 2015.

Bligh had sought orders against the Ice Skating Association of Ireland, relying on alleged representations that meeting specified criteria would secure selection for International Skating Union events. The association denied her claims and said her place in the Irish development squad did not entitle her to selection for the national team.

Mr Justice Paul Gilligan ruled that Bligh had failed to establish a case for the mandatory orders. The judge said she might still represent Ireland if she met the required standard.
