Fergal Deery released after contempt imprisonment

By Saoirse Doyle

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Fergal Deery was released after contempt imprisonment by the High Court on 26 March 2021.

The case concerned orders barring him from two properties in Monaghan. He had been committed to Mountjoy Prison after being found guilty of contempt. Mr Justice Allen ordered his release, saying he could not be satisfied that continued imprisonment was unnecessary to vindicate the court’s authority, but was no longer satisfied that it was necessary. He reached that view with misgivings.

The court also ordered that Wardglade Limited’s costs of the motion issued on 5 March 2020 and its adjournments be adjudicated and paid by Mr Deery when determined.
