Faisal Ellahi was convicted of rape and sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 18 December 2015. The offences occurred at his Dublin home on 12 June 2013, after he brought the woman there. Ellahi had pleaded not guilty and claimed the sexual contact was consensual, while denying penetrative sex and saying he did not know she had a mental impairment.

The jury reached its verdict after about two and a half hours of deliberation following a five-week trial. Mr Justice Tony Hunt set 18 January 2016 as the sentence date and said he hoped the authorities would deport Ellahi after he completed his sentence.
