Eugene Cullen was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Central Criminal Court for murdering Seamus O'Byrne in Tallaght. The jury found him guilty, after he had pleaded not guilty. The proceedings were reported on 20 March 2014.
Mr Justice Barry White handed down the mandatory life sentence and backdated it to 8 May 2012 for time spent in custody. The court heard that Cullen was not the gunman, but the prosecution alleged he was one of four men involved in plotting, planning and executing the murder by common design. Garrett O’Brien was identified as the gunman and had received a life sentence in 2012.
