Eric Ryan received a new three-year suspended sentence for dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm from the Court of Appeal, reported on 6 February 2017. He had pleaded guilty to hitting Eve Neylon at Clanbrassil Street Upper, Dublin, after she crossed on a green pedestrian light. The court found the original sentence unduly lenient but decided imprisonment was not in the public interest.
Ryan must pay €50 per week to the National Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation for 18 months, complete further community service, remain under probation supervision and be of good behaviour for 18 months. He had also pleaded guilty to failing to offer assistance, for which he was ordered to undertake community service.
