Eric Eoin Marques was allowed to make a fresh bail application in the High Court in Dublin in proceedings over charges of distributing, conspiring to distribute and advertising child pornography, reported on 12 September 2013.
Mr Justice John Edwards ruled that, in the interest of justice, Mr Marques could apply for bail a second time. He had previously been refused bail because he was considered a possible flight risk and there were fears he might destroy evidence, particularly computer evidence.
The report said US authorities sought to extradite Mr Marques, who had dual Irish-US citizenship, to face trial on the charges. It also said he was alleged to have aided and abetted a conspiracy to advertise child pornography.
Remy Farrell SC argued that the proceedings had moved from a provisional warrant to a full extradition hearing. Patrick McGrath SC, for the Attorney General, opposed the application.
