Eoin Hannan jailed for harassment after mistaken identity

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Eoin Hannan was jailed for four years for harassment at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 7 November 2022. He had harassed Ciara Hassett at locations around the State between 14 February and 25 August 2020, after gardaí had warned him that she did not welcome his behaviour.

Hannan later pleaded guilty to separately harassing Ms Hassett’s father between 20 January and 13 February 2021. The court heard that, during the earlier course of harassment, he sent gifts and letters and attended her workplace; the trial established he had confused her with someone else.

Judge Orla Crowe said Hannan’s mental health issues were at the root of the offending. She imposed the four-year prison term and directed that he receive psychiatric services in custody and not contact the victims, their family home or Ms Hassett’s workplace.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
