Eoin Daly received a three-year suspended sentence for smuggling drugs into prison at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 28 July 2016.
He pleaded guilty to one count of possessing heroin for sale or supply and one count of possessing cocaine. The offences occurred at Cloverhill Prison in Dublin on 10 May 2015.
Judge Patrick McCartan imposed two years’ probation supervision and required Daly to remain drug-free. He warned that Daly would go to prison if brought back on the matter.
Detective Superintendent Stephen Doyle previously told the court that a package contained heroin valued at €7,350 and cocaine valued at €787. He said “serious threats” were made against Daly to bring drugs into the prison after word spread that he had been granted compassionate leave. He would not name those responsible for “safety reasons”.
The report described Daly as serving a five-year sentence in Portlaoise Prison, but later gave his existing sentence for burglaries as five-and-a-half years. It recorded 32 previous convictions.
