Eoin Berkley was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the abduction and rape of a teenager. Mr Justice White imposed the sentence. The proceedings were reported on 2 November 2018.

Berkley admitted raping the teenager on three occasions. The offences took place between 15 and 16 July 2017 at a derelict site near Sandymount.

The judge said the victim had been subjected to excessive cruelty, degradation and demeaning behaviour, and had been effectively imprisoned for 21 hours.

Berkley had 25 previous convictions. The judge said he had to take account of the mitigating factors outlined to the court, including Berkley’s history in care. A medical report found that he had significantly compromised development and a severe personality disorder.
