Emily Casey received a final €4.8 million medical negligence settlement approved by the High Court, reported on 30 July 2015. The settlement followed spinal-cord damage during scoliosis surgery at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin.
The payment comprised a further €3.1 million after an interim €1.75 million award, while liability had been admitted. Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Dr David Moore and the hospital were defendants in the action, and counsel offered Casey and her family an apology.
