Elvis Chiriac was sentenced to two years, with the final six months suspended, for ATM thefts at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 15 October 2021.
He admitted 15 theft counts after taking more than €8,500 from AIB ATMs around Dublin between 8 and 10 January 2020. The court heard that 22 attempts were made, usually overnight, using transaction reversal fraud, and that some machines were damaged.
Judge Melanie Greally ordered €3,000 brought to court to be paid to a charity nominated by the bank. She considered his guilty pleas, offer of restitution, previous convictions and the impact of imprisonment on his partner and young family.
