This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Eamon Butterly concluded his evidence to the Stardust inquests at Dublin District Coroner’s Court on 6 October 2023, after eight days in the witness box. The proceedings concerned the deaths in the 1981 nightclub fire.

Butterly agreed that the club’s management was not fit for purpose. He also said he had received no management training and had no previous experience in the entertainment trade.

He agreed that permission was needed for metal sheets welded to toilet windows and said he had not received it. He rejected the suggestion that he did not care about patrons’ ages, replying that the doormen must have thought they were over 21.
