A Dublin woman received a three-month fully suspended sentence for wilful child neglect at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 27 January 2022.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of wilfully neglecting her two sons on dates between September 2017 and November 2018.

Judge Melanie Greally suspended the imprisonment in its entirety on strict conditions, including following all Probation Service directions for 12 months.

The woman said she loved her children and never intended to neglect them. Defence counsel said the case was over-prosecuted and could have been dealt with as a school attendance case.
