Dublin man sentenced to 10 years for stabbing partner in child’s bedroom

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A Dublin man, who cannot be named to protect the children’s identities, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of assault causing serious harm to his partner, assault causing harm and two counts of producing a knife. He had also pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to his stepdaughter. Judge Patricia Ryan backdated the sentence to 2022, when he went into custody.

The court heard that he pinned his partner down in their child’s bedroom, attempted to slit her throat, cut her face and stabbed her twice in the chest. Her injuries left permanent facial disfigurement; her doctor described the chest wounds as potentially fatal. The judge treated the relationship of trust as an aggravating factor and considered family character references and the man’s co-operation with the investigation in mitigation.
