A Dublin man was remanded in custody and ordered to undergo further risk assessment by the Probation Services. The court heard the case on 26 June 2014. The proceedings were reported on 26 June 2014.

He has pleaded guilty to three charges of exploitation of a child and two counts of defilement of a child. The offences took place at locations in Dublin on various dates between April and October 2012.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring said she would deal with the issue of publishing the man's identity at his sentencing hearing, then expected in October 2014.

The report said the man was 19 at the time and targeted three boys aged between 13 and 14 to send him sexually explicit pictures of themselves and to masturbate via an online video link. It said two Facebook profiles were set up as those of a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old bisexual boy, using actual images of children randomly sourced through a Google images search. When questioned by gardai, the man said he did not think there was anything wrong with what he was doing.

Defence lawyer Padraig Dwyer SC said his client had a full-time job, had no previous convictions and had not offended since the incident.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
