A 61-year-old Dublin man convicted of indecent and sexual assault was ordered off the sex offenders’ register at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 11 November 2015. The man cannot be named for legal reasons. Judge Martin Nolan made the order after Probation Services assessed him as at low risk of reoffending. The order was stayed for a month to allow the State to appeal.
The convictions arose from indecent assaults on his daughter over five years and a sexual assault when she was 23. The court said the register’s purpose was to monitor people who might pose a danger to society, and concluded that the common good was not served by keeping a low-risk person on it.
