This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A 44-year-old Dublin man has been jailed for 18 years for offences against his young daughter and former partner. He cannot be named to protect their anonymity. A Central Criminal Court jury found him guilty of repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting his daughter, who was aged between five and eight during the abuse, and of exposing her to pornography. He was also found guilty of falsely imprisoning and threatening to kill his former partner, the child’s mother. He pleaded guilty to assault causing her harm. He continues to deny the offences against his daughter.

The court imposed six years for the offences against the woman and 13 years for those against the child, to run consecutively, and suspended the final year subject to conditions. Mr Justice Paul Burns described the sexual abuse as “abhorrent and depraved” and said the attack on the woman was prolonged and cruel. The sentence followed the judge’s findings on the effects of the abuse on the child and the severity of the assault.
