Dublin man given suspended sentence in child pornography case

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Philip Nolan of Tallaght received a suspended two-and-a-half-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography. Judge Pauline Codd made the sentence conditional on his attending a sexual offenders treatment programme.

The court heard that Australian investigators alerted gardaí to an Irish internet address accessing child pornography. A search of Nolan’s home in 2011 led to devices later found to contain 106 files, including images, videos and text stories. The court was told the examination took place in 2017 after the case was prioritised behind more serious investigations and amid a shortage of analysts.
