A 41-year-old man was sentenced to two years for three sexual assaults at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 18 July 2019, with the final six months suspended. The offences happened at his Dublin home on 23 and 30 October 2016, after he invited a teenage girl for sleepovers.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, had denied the charges but was found unanimously guilty by a jury in May. The court heard that the girl was 14 when the assaults occurred and that Facebook messages encouraging her to attend sleepovers formed part of the evidence.
The sentence was backdated to 21 June, when he went into custody. He will be subject to Probation Service supervision, post-release supervision and sex-offender registration.
