A 63-year-old Dublin engineer pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 10 sample counts of indecent and sexual assaults involving six children. The proceedings were reported on February 12, 2026. Judge Orla Crowe remanded him in custody until February 23 for sentencing. The defendant cannot be named to protect the victims’ anonymity.
The offending spanned seven years, mostly between 1983 and 1990, and involved five of the defendant’s first cousins and another child who was a cousin of a cousin. One victim told the court that he had exploited her when she was an innocent child. She was sexually assaulted by him again as an adult between 1999 and 2000. The offending came to light after a victim went to gardaí in March 2023.
The defendant had three previous convictions for sexual assault of a male from 2002 and received an 18-month suspended sentence in April 2005.
Detective Garda Kathy Higgins agreed with defence counsel Paul Murray SC that the defendant’s expressed remorse was genuine and that he had dealt with the allegations in “the best possible way”. Mr Murray said his client had been assessed as being at low risk of reoffending and asked the court to consider his care for his elderly parents, his work history and his early guilty pleas.
