This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Donal Geoghegan was acquitted of sexual assault at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 18 December 2017. The charge concerned an alleged incident on the dance floor of a late bar in Dublin city centre on 21 November 2015.

Judge Cormac Quinn directed the jury to acquit Mr Geoghegan after the complainant said she had not seen who touched her. CCTV footage shown during the trial did not identify the alleged assailant.

The judge also said another man, referred to as Mr X, had been near the complainant and might have touched her, but his activities had not been investigated. The court was due to hear an application for costs on 11 January 2018.
