Dominik Biber was jailed for attempted murder at the Central Criminal Court in December 2022, receiving 13 years with the final two years suspended for four years. The charges of false imprisonment and burglary were taken into account, and Mr Justice Paul McDermott imposed the sentence.
Biber had pleaded guilty to attempting to murder Tomasz Grosser at Ormston House, Ellen Street, Limerick, on 11 April 2020, as well as to false imprisonment and burglary while carrying two knives. The proceedings were reported on 5 December 2022.
His appeal against the severity of the sentence was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 10 November 2025. Mr Justice Peter Charleton said there was no basis for interfering with the sentence.
For the defence, Michael Bowman SC cited Biber’s previous drug-induced psychosis, mitigating circumstances, employment history and promise not to take drugs again. Ronan Kennedy SC, for the Director of Public Prosecutions, said Biber had continued taking illegal drugs despite that history; the prosecution also said the sentencing judge had deducted over 35% from the headline sentence.
