This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Diego Costa Silva was found not guilty of murdering his wife by reason of insanity by a jury at the Central Criminal Court, as reported on 8 March 2024.

Costa Silva had pleaded not guilty to murdering Fabiola De Campos Silva over her death at their home in Finglas, Dublin 11, on 4 November 2021.

Two forensic consultant psychiatrists said he was suffering from cannabis-induced psychosis and, as a result, did not know the nature and quality of his actions or that they were wrong. The prosecution and defence told the jury he qualified for the special verdict under the Criminal Law (Insanity) Act 2006; the jury returned a unanimous verdict after two hours and 24 minutes.
