Diarmuid Connolly was ordered to complete an anger management course in Dublin District Court on 29 January 2014 after pleading guilty to assault causing harm.
Judge Patrick Clyne described the attack as unprovoked after examining updated medical reports and Anthony Kelly’s victim impact statement. Connolly had pleaded guilty earlier. His lawyer issued an unreserved apology, accepted by Kelly, and Connolly paid €5,000 to Barnardos and the Rape Crisis Centre instead of compensation.
The judge required a certificate confirming completion of the course, ordered a probation report and adjourned the case until a date in May. The proceedings were reported on 30 January 2014.
