Dessie Dundon granted leave over parole refusal and murder conviction

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Dessie Dundon was granted leave at the High Court on 14 October 2024 to challenge the Parole Board’s refusal of parole while he serves life imprisonment for the murder of Kieran Keane and attempted murder of Owen Treacy. Ms Justice Mary Rose Gearty adjourned the matter to 5 November for mention.

Dundon claims the board relied on Garda material he saw only after its March 2024 refusal and did not fairly consider summary or redacted disclosure. Mark Lynam SC said Dundon had engaged with the board and generally had good reports from Mountjoy Prison. The proceedings were reported on 14 October 2024.
