Desmond 'Des' Duffy's murder trial at the Central Criminal Court was reported on 12 November 2018, after a friend gave evidence describing him as quiet and submissive.

Lois Farrell said Desmond Sullivan had been dominant and disrespectful towards Duffy in their relationship. Duffy denies murdering Sullivan at their shared home in Somerville Park, Rathmines, Dublin 6, on 23 May 2016, and told gardaí he acted in self-defence.

State pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy said Sullivan died from neck compression, while heart disease and substances in his system may also have contributed. The prosecution had completed its evidence, and Justice Paul McDermott directed the jury to return on 7 November 2018.
